That’s what your wise mother probably told you when you were trying to make a fab look for yourself out of the latest body-squishing jeans, or freakish stiletto-heeled, cuffed boots. Or, yeah, both together. With something fringed.
Well, what you learn as you develop a true sense of self is that the latest fad might not make you look your best, actually.
The same applies to your visual business image materials; your logo, color palette, slogan, web pages. Yes, you don’t want to look so incredibly dorky that your “personal style” screams “kick me.” But you don’t want to slavishly follow the edicts of the design world, cool though their concepts may be.
The trick is to match your style, slogans, colors, and so on – all of which add up to your overall statement about yourself to – well, the statement that you want to make about yourself. If what you settle on is not perfectly in tune with the current ultra minimalist standard, or the creamy dreamy color schemes that the groovy people are using, but it fits who you are, what you do, and how you do it, then go forth with pizzazz. Your style will shine through.
Here’s a great example of some collateral materials we created for a recent client that spoke her personality to a “T” and is now attracting just the clients she hoped for.
